“Sauður” (“sheep” in Icelandic). “Sauður” was created as the headlining piece for Hellissandur’s 2019 street art festival. Since 2017 this small fishing village has been the street art capital of Iceland, and in 2019 we were selected to paint the largest wall in town at approximately 1,100 square feet (40’x28’). Created in five days (largely due to the eternal sunshine of Icelandic summers), this sheep was chosen as our subject because of the essential role this animal plays for the Icelandic people to both survive and thrive. The resilience of the sheep represents the strength and tenacity of these northern people, as well as the deep connection to nature and this harsh but beautiful terrain. Our mural “Sauðfé” has since become a major local attraction in this western Icelandic peninsula.
